Will the 22kW Guardian power my whole house including central air conditioning?

Yes. The 22,000-watt continuous output and 200-Amp service entrance rated transfer switch are engineered to handle modern 2,500 to 4,500 sq ft homes. It comfortably powers a 4-ton or 5-ton central AC unit, electric stove, water heater, well pump, refrigeration, and electronics simultaneously. For homes with multiple large central AC units, the smart switch includes built-in load management modules to cycle heavy loads seamlessly.

Can this generator run on both Natural Gas (NG) and Propane (LP)?

Yes. The Generac Guardian features a toolless fuel selector switch located directly inside the engine compartment. It operates directly from your home’s existing utility natural gas meter or from an external propane (LP) tank. No carburetor swapping or re-jetting is required.

How does the automatic transfer switch work during an outage?

The system constantly senses utility voltage. When grid power drops for more than 5 seconds, the Evolution controller automatically cranks the G-Force engine. Once the generator reaches stable operating speed (within 10 seconds total), the 200-Amp transfer switch automatically disconnects from the grid and connects your home to generator power. When utility power is permanently restored, the switch reconnects to the grid and runs the generator for a 1-minute cool-down period before shutting down.

What is Quiet-Test™ mode and how loud is the unit?

Quiet-Test is Generac’s patented exercise mode. Once a week (or bi-weekly/monthly at the day and time you schedule), the generator runs a 5-minute self-test at lower engine RPM. In this mode, sound output is only 57 dBA—quieter than a standard household conversation. At full 100% electrical load, the generator produces 67 dBA at 23 feet, complying with all residential municipal noise ordinances.

How does freight delivery work and what is required for installation?

Shipping is 100% free with residential liftgate freight delivery included. The freight carrier will call you in advance to schedule a delivery appointment window and lower the palletized crate directly onto your driveway. For installation, we recommend hiring a licensed electrician to mount the transfer switch and a licensed plumber or gas technician to connect your natural gas or propane line.
